LIVING LEGACIES

This month's show...

This edition of Living Legacies features Jim Schroder.

After graduating from Oceanside High School in 1963 Jim Schroder hitchhiked throughout Europe and the east coast for three months. Upon returning he attended San Diego State, graduated from Mira Costa College and then graduated from Chapman University with a degree in Economics and Business Administration. Jim's parents Edith and Marty Schroder owned and operated four businesses in the City of Oceanside, Marty's Coffee Shop, Marty's Steak House in the downtown area from 1946 to 1964, Marty's Valley Inn Restaurant and Best Western Marty's Valley Inn Hotel from 1955 until 2003 where Jim was General Manager of the hotel, restaurant and family businesses for many of those years.

After the death of both parents he continued on the tradition of hospitality and quality they are so well known for. Today he and his brother Ron own and manage their own commercial buildings in Oceanside, San Diego and Los Angeles areas.

Jim has been very active in many local, state and international organizations, including past President of the California State Lodging Industry Association, San Luis Rey Shrine Club, Oceanside Rotary Club, Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, Oceanside Hospitality Association, Oceanside Sister Cities Foundation, Mission San Luis Rey, Past Regional Governor for San Diego County and Baja California and Mexico Best Westerns, Representative for all Best Western Mexico Hotels.

About Living Legacies...

Tom Morrow, Host

If the generation living through the Great Depression could be labeled, it should be "The Silent Generation." Their stories are the hardest to get, but the most important of the 20th century. They saved the nation, and are dying at the rate of 1000/day.

"Living Legacies"  is a favorite daily KOCT show on Channel 18, in which Tom Morrow, North County Times columnist, interviews local area folks, whom you may know, on a one-on-one basis, to get their life stories involving the World War II Era.

If you know of someone whose story should be told, contact:   tmorrow@nctimes.com or call KOCT at 722-4433.

(Daily at 5:30am & 6:30pm on Channel 18)
