KOCT Executive Director Tom Reeser invites the public to take part in a new format for the Voice of Oceanside by becoming a member of the studio audience during twice monthly tapings of the show.

Reeser explains, "We're trying something new this summer to invigorate our longest-running talk show by bringing the audience and their questions into our studios." The Voice of Oceanside will not be telecast live and therefore it will not include calls in from viewers at home. "We hope to cultivate a studio audience who will ask questions of our local leaders.

We feel that when viewers see face-to-face communication between audience and guests, their appreciation for the subject matter will be dramatically enhanced."

KOCT is pleased to announce the hosting line-up will be Tim Aldrich, John Bonosoro and Alison St. John.

To reserve a space in the audience for a taping of the Voice of Oceanside, call 760 722-4433. Seating is limited so a seat reservation is required.

LOMA ALTA CREEK ENHANCEMENT PROJECT

Oceanside's DEPUTY MAYOR SHARI MACKIN and BARRY MARTIN, Director of the Water Utilities Department, will appear on KOCT-TV VOICE OF OCEANSIDE in January to discuss plans for the LOMA ALTA CREEK TREATMENT FACILITY AND WETLAND ENHANCEMENT PROJECT.

Barry Martin, Sherri Mackin and Alison St. John

The City of Oceanside received approval from the State Water Resources Control Board for a $2.3 million grant to construct an ultra-violet light storm water treatment plant at Loma Alta Lagoon. The reason for the treatment facility is the high bacterial concentrations in the water currently discharged from the Loma Alta Creek outlet which has resulted in closure of Buccaneer Beach for approximately 16 days during the latest summer season, with 31 advisory days.

The television show will be hosted by KPBS reporter, ALISON ST. JOHN and taped before a live studio audience on THURSDAY, JANUARY 19, 2006.

KOCT INVITES THE PUBLIC TO PARTICIPATE IN THE STUDIO AUDIENCE. PLEASE MAKE SEATING RESERVATIONS BY CALLING 760 722-4433.

The audience will be given opportunities to ask questions of Shari Mackin and Barry Martin. KOCT's Oceanside television studios are located at 3038 Industry Street, Suite 101. Arrival time for audience members is 6:30 P.M. Taping is from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Loma Alta Creek Lagoon and Buccaneer Beach are currently impacted by high levels of bacteria. Buccaneer Beach is a family beach adjacent to a park with a large parking area that accommodates large crowds during the dry months. The City has determined that a key source of bacteria and nutrients in Loma Alta Creek is urban runoff that discharges into the creek. The source of water for Loma Alta Creek is from storm drain flows from the Loma Alta watershed, which drains approximately 6,400 acres, and flows through densely developed residential, commercial, and industrial land uses. The proposed project involves the construction of an UV light storm water treatment facility to be located adjacent to the Loma Alta Creek outlet at the existing La Salina Wastewater Treatment Facility. Shari Mackin hopes this grant will be the first in a series of such projects, including a wetlands restoration project and interpretive center, to enhance Loma Alta Creek and Buccaneer Beach.

This edition of the VOICE OF OCEANSIDE will begin airing on KOCT - CHANNEL 19 the week of Monday, January 23, 2006 at 6:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M.
